The Fighting Against Forced Labour and Child Labour in Supply Chains Act came into force in Canada on January 1, 2024.  The Act supports Canada’s efforts to combat forced labour and child labour in global supply chains by requiring certain entities to report annually on the measures taken to prevent and reduce the risk that forced labour or child labour is used in their business activities and supply chains. The legislation promotes transparency and accountability with respect to sourcing, procurement and supply chain management practices.


The Extractive Sector Transparency Measures Act (“ESTMA”) was enacted by the Government of Canada on December 16, 2014, and made effective on June 1, 2015. This Act delivers on Canada’s international commitments to contribute to global efforts to increase transparency and deter corruption in the extractive sector. The Act requires extractive entities active in Canada to publicly disclose, on an annual basis, specific payments made to all governments in Canada and abroad.
